About the Dundee Hills AVA
Oregon Wine is rooted in the Dundee Hills, and Oregon Pinot noir first won its worldwide reputation here. Fifty-year-old vines bear testament to the continued vitality of the storied hills. Today, innovative, dedicated winemakers pursue excellence in that same welcoming and collaborative spirit.
It started here for a reason.
Welcome to the Dundee Hills AVA. These hills have stories to tell. They hold a rich history of explorers and families working through experimentation and time-tested practices. Known in wine circles as the epicenter of Oregon Pinot noir, the region planted its first vines more than fifty years ago, when pioneers such as Dick Erath, David Lett, the Knudsens, and the Sokol Blossers established many of Oregon’s first vineyards.
The wines of the Dundee Hills offer an elegance found in few places around the world. These hills continually demonstrate the ideal growing conditions for Pinot noir, and the Burgundian varietals, in general. Best known for world class Pinot noir, the region produces many other award-winning wines, including Chardonnay, Pinot gris, Pinot blanc and sparkling wines. An ideal climate combined with ancient, complex Jory soil produces wines that show pure fruit, bright acidity, intense depth, and a classic balance.
