Who would have thought we’d be celebrating such a thing as Cabernet Day! Well…why not!
It’s been a tiring week but it’s finally Friday. If you would like to know what’s been happening in the life of this winemaker you can check it out here. Things are pretty hectic and, Mattie, my Airedale, has undergone bone cancer surgery to remove her left front leg.
Yesterday was Cabernet Day. I went to the cellar and found a 2008 Chateau St Jean Cinq Cepages. Although it’s not 100% Cabernet, I thought it appropriate for this special evening. Even though it’s been a tough week, what better way to celebrate this special day. The 2008 Cinq Cepages blend is 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc, 5% Merlot, 4% Petit Verdot and 3% Malbec. Purchased in the CSJ tasting room. Alc: 14.4% by vol
The 2008 Chateau St Jean Cinq Cepages aroma is one of those wines I could sit and sniff for a while. It’s the boysenberries and chocolate that get me every time, coupled with a slight floral note and cassis. On the palate I found stone fruit, blackberry, slight licorice, nicely integrated tannins…feels slightly hot…long finish. I think this wine will be even better in a couple of years!
Love the new label too!!
Cheers!
